5 Must have brain teasing Android GAMES!

September 7, 2010

1.) Angry Birds Beta: The hype is justified. This game is addicting as you decide how to smash the green oinking pigs with gleeful whoopees from your flying angry birds. If that doesn’t make you smile then you probably haven’t played it yet. The only downside is once you get started it can be difficult to quit trying to plow your way through level after level.

2.) Alchemy: You start by combining four elements to create a chain of items. It gets complex quickly adding the first elements to a new one you created up to 300 total items including man, volcanoes, and Mario (as in Super Mario Bros) I have no idea why I find this game so strangely addicting, but it is. Coming up with new items by logic or chance after trying so many false combinations is just so gratifying.

3) Vocab Quiz: Whether you are waiting for your car to be washed/oil changed or you’re sitting waiting for your number to be called at the DMV/Dr’s Office, brain teasing games are the way to go. They can keep you engaged for 5 mins or 50. It is even better if that game can help you learn something other than how to beat a level. My only gripe with this game is that there is no reward for doing well or tracking your progress. It is a never-ending free-for-all.

4)

Traffic Jam: Another puzzle game that works similarly to one of my favorite Gameboy games growing up called Boxel. It is easy, intuitive, and can keep your mind plenty busy. Speaking of games I played while growing up.

Images from AppBrain: Which I highly recommend in App form and website.

5) Emulators: This isn’t really a puzzle game, but there are tons of puzzle games available through these emulators. There is an emulator for most of the old consoles. I wrote up a whole post on them. From Atari through Playstation these things rock. They are free unless you want to save your game or you want to support the developer. After spending quite a bit of time using these I will say that the more complex games can lag down a bit after a while. Something like Sonic the Hedgehog tends to slow at times. I enjoy the older 16 bit type games more on my phone anyway. The easier buttons and simplicity of the 1 and 2 button controller created games were hand-cramping and blister-making goodness back then are the same now on your Android phone. My recommendation for a great puzzle game other than Boxel is Dr. Mario. There are so many other games similar to Tetris these days, but now you can also go back to the original.
